extended warranty

As I mentioned in my previous post ("leak history: so far"), I recently purchased Suzuki's extended warranty. Normally, I consider such things to be rip-offs and refuse to buy them. This time, while I'm unhappy about having to buy peace of mind from Suzuki, I decided that, given my bike's history of leaks (and one or two strange noises), I'd bite the bullet and buy the warranty.

The dealer charged me $450 USD for four years of coverage. I thought people here might be interested, not only in the price, but also in the terms of the warranty. I don't know how close those terms are to the original warranty, but they at least give some insight into Suzuki's "thoughts" on the matter of user modifications.

The extended warranty provisions disallow coverage for any damage caused by user modifications using non-Suzuki parts. In other words, the warranty implicitly allows such mods as different exhaust, etc. So I think it's safe to assume that installing a SuperTrapp, for example, will not void the original warranty -- and that's been made clear in my case by the fact that my dealer has continued to perform warranty work on my bike long after I installed the SuperTrapp. In fact, he ordered and offered to install the SuperTrapp for me. (He has also suggested that I have him modify the carburetor. I'm thinking about it)

One other thing about the extended warranty: it is transferable to private parties, but not to dealers. In other words, if you sell your Savage to a private party during the term of the extended warranty, the extended warranty goes with the new owner. But if instead you trade in the Savage, or sell it to a dealer, the warranty does not transfer. I believe you can get a pro-rata refund, less a $25 fee, at any time (but I don't have the papers here to check that), so you'd get something back if you traded the bike in during the coverage period.
